Buccaneer Archipelago, Western Australia

Located at the top end of Australia, the Buccaneer Archipelago (also know as the Thousand Islands) is a short helicopter flight from the small town of Derby.

This untouched paradise is home to over 1,000 tiny islands dropped into a sea so blue it looks artificial. But this wonder of nature is 100% real and one of the most spectacular ocean landscapes I have ever flown over.

This coastline experiences one of the largest tidal drops in the world, with an astonishing 11.8m tidal drop each day. The result is fast flowing water around these islands and in this case, the formation of what appears to be a whirlpool of mud swirling around under the surface.
