Snares Crested Penguin, The Snares : Subantarctica Islands
These adorable little penguins were a lot of fun to watch as they jumped in and out of the ocean off the coastline of North East Island in The Snares. It wasn't that easy for them either, as they had to negotiate a constantly moving kelp bed and crashing waves as well. The Snares is a strictly protected environment, so we are not allowed to land ashore. We were however able to nose in quite close with our zodiac, giving us front row seats for a rare wildlife encounter with the Snares Crested Penguins.
