Bungle Bungles, Western Australia
The incredible Bungle Bungle Range (also called the Bungle Bungles) in World Heritage-listed Purnululu National Park is a relatively new discovery and was a secret from the outside world until 1983. The 50km road in is strictly 4WD access only, with more than a dozen creek crossings and some of the most corrugated roads you will ever endure.
But the reward is worth it. The 350 million year old formation features a maze of orange and black striped karst sandstone domes, for all the world looking like giant beehives. The best way to see it is from he air and in this photo, when the first light of the day falls across the domes on the eastern side of the park.
