Bungle Bungles, Western Australia
The incredible Bungle Bungle Range (also called the Bungle Bungles) in World Heritage-listed Purnululu National Park is a relatively new discovery and was a secret from the outside world until 1983. The 50km road in is strictly 4WD access only, with more than a dozen creek crossings and some of the most corrugated roads you will ever endure.
But the reward is worth it. The 350 million year old formation features a maze of orange and black striped karst sandstone domes, for all the world looking like giant beehives.
For this shot my helicopter took off in the dark, so that we could get in position on the eastern side of the park to capture the first rays of light falling across the top of the domes.
